Network

The Swiss Memorial for the Victims of National Socialism emerged from a civil society initiative that began in 2019. Following the Federal Council’s 2023 decision to establish a memorial, the Canton of St. Gallen, the Archives of Contemporary History at ETH Zurich, the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel, the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities, and the City of Bern founded a network in 2024. Its aim is to connect stakeholders and initiatives related to the Swiss Memorial and, in cooperation with the Jewish Museum Hohenems, to advance the development of the Diepoldsau Education Center.

The Network Association

The Network is organised as an association and receives financial support from the Federal Office of Culture.
The association’s administrative office is located at the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities. In addition to the founding members, it admits Associate Members, operates the website swissmemorial.ch, and sends out a newsletter. The Network provides a platform for exchange among its members and organizes conferences and workshops.

Current Status (May 2026)

From summer 2026, legal entities can be admitted to the network association as associate members. Information about admission can be requested via the contact form.

This year, the Network’s focus is on coordinating the educational and outreach activities at the memorial site in Bern and at the Diepoldsau Education Center.
